Refugees International Statement in Loving Memory of Marc Hanson

Refugees International was saddened to learn of the passing of friend and former colleague Marc Hanson on August 25, 2021. We are sending our deepest condolences to Marc’s wife Shaina, children Jasper and Enzo, and his entire family.

Marc Hanson was a Senior Advocate for Government Affairs at Refugees International from 2011-2013, completing multiple missions in the Middle East region and Latin America to advocate for the rights and dignity of displaced people. Marc was a strong and tireless advocate for justice. His knowledge of Capitol Hill and the appropriations process enabled him to quickly understand and carefully explain the impact a proposed bill or congressional budget cut might have on refugees and others facing extremely difficult circumstances. His quiet manner and ready smile made him a welcome collaborator both with NGO colleagues and congressional staff.

Refugees International staff fondly remembers his kindness, warmth, and good humor. While he was at Refugees International and afterwards, we were fortunate to have witnessed what a dedicated humanitarian and public servant like Marc could accomplish.

May he rest in peace.
