Refugees International Applauds House Passage of the Refugee Sanitation Facility Safety Act of 2021

Please see below statement from Refugees International Senior Advocate for Women and Girls Devon Cone:

“Refugees International applauds the House passage of the Refugee Sanitation Facility Safety Act of 2021 (H.R. 1158), which will require organizations that receive U.S. funding to ensure that women do not have to travel long distances to use the restroom, that there are separate bathroom facilities for men and women, and that adequate lighting is available. These are relatively simple measures, yet they have a considerable impact in keeping refugee women and girls safe.

Refugee women and girls are at heightened risk for violence, and steps like these are important to reduce the risks that they will face harm. Refugees International thanks H.R. 1158’s sponsor Representative Meng and the bipartisan supporters of this bill and encourage Senate passage as soon as possible.”
