Expansion of Discriminatory U.S. Travel Ban ‘Unreasonable and Unnecessary’

Statement from Refugees International President Eric Schwartz on the Trump administration’s expansion of the discriminatory U.S. travel ban:

“The Trump administration’s decision to expand its discriminatory travel ban is an executive overreach and part of a pattern of anti-immigrant and anti-refugee policies. It is unreasonable and unnecessary to broadly restrict immigration based on nationality, race, or religion. Discrimination of this kind is illegal under the U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Act of 1965. Since then, presidents have never suspended immigration so broadly at such scale and scope, targeting whole populations of numerous countries.”
