Advocacy for Spain

What is Happening?

Spain has recently seen a sharp rise in the number of people seeking safety, including displaced Venezuelans and unprecedented numbers of people crossing the Atlantic Ocean to the Canary Islands. With EU support, Spain has sought to address the resulting strain on its asylum system. However, Spain’s discriminatory treatment of asylum seekers, aggressive tactics at its borders, and externalization of asylum responsibilities mirror concerning trends across Europe.

What Must Be Done?

Refugees International is calling for access to a fair asylum process for all people seeking safety in Spain, according to the protections due to them under EU and international law.
