Advocacy for Sudan
What is happening?
Violence between the Sudanese Armed Forces and paramilitary Rapid Support Forces has resulted in a human rights and humanitarian crisis that risks destabilizing Sudan and the region. Attacks on civilians have killed thousands and atrocities in Darfur echo the genocide of 20 years ago. More than 4 million people have been forced from their homes in Sudan, with more than 1 million fleeing across borders to neighboring countries. The conflict now risks sparking a regional hunger crisis.
What must be done?
Without urgent action, the conflict will continue to spiral. Refugees International is calling for neighboring countries to offer people fleeing the violence safety and is urging the Biden administration to appoint a presidential envoy, enact targeted sanctions, increase humanitarian aid, investigate atrocities and genocide charges, and call for a global arms embargo.
