Three Years On: Sudan’s War, Humanitarian Collapse, and U.S. Leadership
April 15 marks three years since the outbreak of war in Sudan, a conflict that has triggered the world’s largest displacement and humanitarian crises. Despite the scale of suffering, international attention and political urgency have not matched civilian needs on the ground.
Refugees International hosted an event featuring remarks by Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA) and Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ), as well as a panel featuring speakers from various parts of Sudan affected by the conflict to share their stories and assess the current state of the crisis. The panel explored urgent gaps in humanitarian response in Sudan and outlined actionable steps Congress and the U.S. administration can take to reassert U.S. humanitarian leadership and address civilian suffering.
