Sarah Sheffer is the vice president for strategic outreach at Refugees International and the communications lead at the Refugee Advocacy Lab.
In her role, Sheffer oversees Refugees International’s external outreach, shaping the organization’s media, digital, brand, government relations, campaign, and audience engagement strategies. Through the Lab, she leads strategic communications research on how to effectively engage diverse audiences on refugee issues and provides training to a wide range of stakeholders on persuasive messaging tactics.
She brings more than a decade of communications experience, including roles at Burson-Marsteller, a leading global communications firm, and the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, where she managed outreach for Carnegie’s foreign policy experts.
Earlier in her career, Sheffer worked in media, including as a video producer for Thomson Reuters in Cairo, Egypt, and as a desk assistant at the PBS NewsHour in Washington, DC. She holds a B.A. in International Affairs and Middle East Studies from Northeastern University.
