Eliza Leal is the Digital Communications Officer at Refugees International. Guided by her Latino heritage and upbringing in a mixed status household, her personal values are deeply entrenched in human rights advocacy and appreciation for storytelling practices in understanding immigrant and refugee experiences.

In addition to working at Refugees International, she volunteers with migrant advocacy organizations, most recently the Amica Center for Immigrant Rights, with mutual aid efforts, USCIS applications, interpretation, and translation. Her educational background encompasses topics concerning social justice in policy and geography, immigration policy, and global humanitarian crises. She has researched the role of community based care in refugee integration in Utica as well as the role of participatory GIS efforts in facilitating land reclamation for indigenous communities in the Amazon.

She holds a B.A. in Sociology and minored in Geography and Classics at Colgate University.
