Refugees International Statement on Trump Administration’s Proposed Plan to Postpone Refugee Resettlement

Please see below statement from Refugees International President Eric Schwartz on a Reuters report that the Trump administration may postpone or further cut refugee admissions in the coming year:

“It’s hardly surprising that President Trump and Stephen Miller are considering the further decimation of the U.S. Refugee Admissions Program, but that doesn’t make it any less outrageous and unacceptable. It’s also ironic, as resettled refugees in the United States have been on the front lines of the COVID-19 response. We owe these resettled refugees our deepest gratitude, but this administration is hard at work seeking to destroy the very program that has enabled their contributions as health care workers, as emergency responders, and in other critical ways.”
