Refugees International Statement on Today’s Supreme Court DACA Decision
Please see below statement from Refugees International Senior U.S. Advocate Yael Schacher on behalf of Refugees International:
“Today the Supreme Court stopped the Trump administration’s arbitrary ending of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals—a program that has been a life line and road to opportunity for those brought to the United States as children, besides being a tremendous benefit to the United States as a whole. The court ruled that, in making the decision to rescind DACA, the administration “entirely failed to consider” its effects on DACA recipients’ families (including over 200,000 U.S. citizen children), the effects on the schools where DACA recipients study and teach, and the effects on the employers who have trained them and to the many people they employ—and the list goes on and on. This decision comes amid the COVID-19 pandemic, a time in which thousands of DACA recipients are working tirelessly to protect, help, and heal our country and communities.
Our thoughts are with the many hundreds of thousands of individuals impacted by the Court’s action. To those with DACA, we say: you are valued members of our community. Today’s decision is a testament to the power of your dreams and your advocacy. To the administration and to Congress we say: it’s time to end unfair and inhumane policies against immigrants, refugees, and asylum seekers and to make America the permanent home of Dreamers, their families, and to so many others seeking protection in the United States and helping to make it great.”
