Refugees International Statement on the Election of Donald Trump
As the country comes together and moves forward following the election of Donald Trump as the 45th president of the United States, Refugees International reaffirms its commitment to work on behalf of the world’s 65 million refugees and displaced people. Throughout its history, the United States has played a leadership role on behalf of the most vulnerable people around the world and has helped develop international legal principles that protect refugees and internally displaced persons. Refugees International has worked on behalf of refugees for more than 37 years, through seven U.S. administrations – from the presidencies of Jimmy Carter and Ronald Reagan to those of Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama, and now President-elect Donald Trump. We therefore remain committed to continuing our important work with Congress and the incoming administration in the months and years ahead, advocating for sustained U.S. leadership on today’s most critical refugee issues.
