Refugees International congratulates President-elect Joe Biden and we welcome his commitment to renew and promote the principles of inclusion and respect for human rights, both at home and abroad.
We applaud President-elect Biden’s intentions to strongly support the U.S. refugee admissions program, to reinstate a DACA program that has been critical to the lives of hundreds of thousands of dreamers, and to ensure humane and lawful practices relating to asylum in the United States. These fundamental changes would not only reflect our most noble values, they also would recognize the enormous role that immigrants and refugees—our neighbors—play in supporting communities around the country.
Millions of immigrants, including many hundreds of thousands of refugees, are working on the front lines of the COVID-19 response, in health care, in food production, in transportation, and in related fields, and they have strengthened the communities that have welcomed them.
Refugees International also applauds President-elect Biden’s commitment to re-establish United States leadership in global efforts to promote life-saving humanitarian aid and human rights for refugees and for others around the world who have been forcibly displaced from their homes.
We look forward to working with the new administration and the new Congress as we advocate in support of these noble objectives.
