9th Circuit Court Ruling Jeopardizes Lives of Hundreds of Thousands of TPS Holders
Statement from Refugees International Senior Advocate Yael Schacher:
“Today’s ruling from the Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit in Ramos v. Wolf has jeopardized the lives of hundreds of thousands of individuals with temporary protected status (TPS) from El Salvador, Nicaragua, and Sudan. Many of those with TPS have lived in the United States for more than two decades and are serving as essential workers on the front lines of the pandemic response. The pain and fear caused by this decision will be felt deeply in communities across the United States, as long-time residents living with TPS are now left in limbo and face the risk of being separated from their American-born children.
When Congress created TPS, its goal was to ensure people were not deported to danger. Because the Trump administration has worked to cancel this important program, Congress must act again to ensure that people are afforded this protection in the coming months.”
