The Public Health Crisis in Afghanistan: A First-Hand Account

December 22, 2021

This webinar is on the public healthcare crisis in Afghanistan, featuring Dr. Paul B. Spiegel, director of the Center for Humanitarian Health at the Bloomberg School of Public Health at Johns Hopkins University. Dr. Spiegel just returned from five weeks in Afghanistan, where he was serving as acting incident manager at the World Health Organization operational center in Kabul.

We are also very pleased to welcome Dr. Patricia F. Walker, who offered commentary on Dr. Spiegel’s presentation. Dr. Walker, Professor of Medicine at the University of Minnesota, has decades of distinguished experience on refugee and migrant health issues, and has recently served as a tropical medicine and refugee medical health expert at U.S. military bases during the early resettlement effort for Afghans.

The session was moderated by Hardin Lang, vice president for policy and programs at Refugees International, and questions and answers will follow.
