This year, we highlighted current humanitarian challenges in the Americas and honored the unwavering dedication of those finding solutions to protect the rights and well-being of displaced people.

2021 Richard C. Holbrooke Award to Dennis Castillo Fuentes

Founder & Executive Director of IRCA CASABIERTA

Dennis Castillo Fuentes is a Honduran national and refugee in Costa Rica. Dennis is the founder and executive director for the Institute for LGBTQI Migration and Refuge for Central America, known as IRCA CASABIERTA, a non-profit organization based in Costa Rica that generates actions, advocacy, investigation, training, integrated psychosocial assistance dedicated to bettering the quality of life and development opportunities for LGBTQI populations that have been forcibly displaced and are looking for refuge in Central America.  

2021 Exceptional Service Award to Eunice Rendón

Coordinator for Agenda Migrante and Founder of Red Viral

Eunice Rendón is the Executive Director of Agenda Migrante and expert in migration and violence prevention. Previously, Ms. Rendón served as the Deputy Executive Secretary of Mexico’s Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System. She has been director of the Institute for Mexicans Abroad at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and also worked for the Ministry of the Interior as the Vice Minister of Violence Prevention and at the Ministry of Health as the director for International Affairs and as the coordinator for Mexican health normativity. She has also been a consultant in different international organizations belonging to the United Nations System, and fellow at the National Institutes of Health in the United States.

2021 Exceptional Service Award to Juan Carlos Viloria Doria

Juan Carlos Viloria Doria is a prominent leader and activist of Venezuelan and Colombian civil society in the diaspora . In June 2019, he assumed the General Coordination of the Coalition for Venezuela, which brings together more than 70 Civil Society Organizations in more than 20 countries around the world. Winner of the 2019 National Young Talent Award, its management highlights the articulation and coordination of support between the public sector, international cooperation entities, the private sector, academia and civil society, as his more than 10 years of work experiences shows.

Featuring a performance of “LA MÚSICA ES” by the Orchestra of the Americas, a group that empowers exceptional musicians to fulfill their potential as impactful human beings.
