In response to the announcement that the Trump administration would slash the number of refugees accepted in FY2020 by almost half, Refugees International President Eric Schwartz issued the following statement:
“I’m in Colombia where some 5,000 Venezuelans gain refuge every day. What President Trump says is difficult for the United States — taking in 18,000 over a year — Colombia does every four days. What a sad commentary on American leadership.”
