Overcoming Challenges in the Name of Refugees

Elena Kvochko, a technology executive, climbs mountains, often organizing charity challenges to draw attention to the plight of refugees and to raise funds in support of Refugees International. Elena has dedicated her climbs to our organization, drawing attention to our core mission: calling on the international community, multilateral organizations, and humanitarian aid groups to protect the rights of refugees and to provide essential lifesaving assistance and security for the displaced.

To create greater awareness of the struggle of refugees today, Elena decided to take on another challenge, summitting Mt. Aconcagua in Argentina. Aconcagua is the tallest mountain in both North and South America, stretching to more than 22,800 feet at its peak. Throughout the journey, Elena hoped to inspire colleagues to stand up for causes they believe in. She  used this climb as a fundraising challenge, donating the money she raised to Refugees International.  Elena said her climb “symbolically represents the summits and challenges that refugees must overcome each day.”

In this video, Elena shares her journey and the lessons she learned through this endurance experience.
