Advocacy for Ecuador

What’s Happening?

Ecuador is the third largest host country of Venezuelan migrants and refugees. More than half a million are now living in the country—many of whom do not have regular status. For years, this meant that many Venezuelans in Ecuador could access healthcare, education, housing, or work opportunities. Some have also experienced targeted violence and xenophobia. Venezuelan women face high levels of gender-based violence.

What Must Be Done?

Ecuador recently announced that it would regularize hundreds of thousands of Venezuelan refugees and migrants. Donors and aid agencies must help ensure that the government delivers on this promise to provide status and that services are available for forcibly displaced people.
