Refugees International 40th Anniversary Intern Scholarship Program

Latin America Program Intern

Refugees International is seeking students or recent graduates for the summer 2021 semester. Refugees International is seeking a talented individual to join their program team as the Latin America Program Intern. This intern will work closely with the Latin America advocate in producing products related to displacement in Latin America and contributing to the overall advocacy strategy of the Latin America advocate. Responsibilities will include researching topics related to the Venezuelan, northern Central American, and Nicaraguan displacement crises, assisting with writing, and editing reports, writing and translating blogs and op-eds, translation of documents, remote attendance and note-taking at virtual events and conferences, and compiling and disseminating news updates. The Latin America Program intern will support the advocacy efforts of Refugees International as it works to ensure that the governments of the world take strong and consistent action to seek durable solutions for refugees, displaced, and stateless populations.

Responsibilities include researching country-specific and regional issues, assisting with data collection and management, writing and editing, compiling updates, and other additional responsibilities as assigned.

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL:

  • Be enrolled as an undergraduate, graduate student, or have recently graduated within the past year;

  • Be seeking the internship as part of the educational experience related to the program in which they are enrolled;

  • Have research experience on topics related to Latin America;

  • Be fluent in Spanish;

  • Willing to intern for at least 250 hours over the course of the summer, within the 9:00am – 5:00pm EST period in which their supervisor will be available, unless further discussed and approved by their supervisor;

  • Have a strong interest in international refugee and humanitarian affairs.

This is a remote position.  For this summer, we will be providing unpaid interns with a stipend to help defray the cost of living and other expenses. This stipend is not intended to serve as renumeration for the services provided, but rather, again, to help defray expenses.

TO APPLY:

Please send a resume, cover letter, a writing sample to interns@refugeesinternational.org with “Summer 2021 Latin America Program Intern” in the title by Sunday, May 2nd, by 11:59 PM EST. Only candidates selected for an interview will be contacted by Refugees International.
