WITH REMARKS BY
SAM WATERSTON

AND FEATURING A DISCUSSION ON CLIMATE DISPLACEMENT

Ken Bacon was the president of Refugees International from 2001 to 2009 with extraordinary vision for both Refugees International (RI) and the escalating climate crisis faced by refugees and internally displaced persons (IDPs). Having witnessed the ethnic tension and violent conflict in Darfur resulting from persistent drought, Ken saw the importance of advocating for a more effective response to climate displacement.

RI launched the Climate Displacement Program with founding gifts from the Bacon family and close friends and supporters of RI in 2009, shortly after Ken’s passing. RI was one of the first organizations to call upon national governments, donors, and UN agencies to address the impact of climate change on displacement, migration, and conflict. For the past decade, the program has continued to focus on advocacy for vulnerable communities of refugees and IDPs uprooted by extreme weather conditions and climate change.

RI honors the memory and legacy of Ken Bacon, the generosity of his family and friends, and the impact his visionary leadership had on climate displacement advocacy for refugees and IDPs worldwide.

Due to limited capacity, seats are reserved by invitation only.
