Director of Strategic Partnerships

The Director of Strategic Partnerships is a new leadership position designed to help RI increase and strengthen outcomes through the identification and engagement of new individual and institutional supporters and coalitions in the states around the country – and beyond Washington, DC. The Director will collaborate with the RI program and policy team, communications, and development to create strategic partnerships in select markets at the local, national, and even global levels, and to inspire policy advocacy and action in support of refugees and internally displaced persons.

This is a new area of focus at RI and a critical area of growth for the organization. The ideal candidate is someone who can build, think big, and who thrives with a small team in an entrepreneurial environment – with a commitment both to expand operations as appropriate and to articulate a compelling vision to potential partners.

This position is based in Washington, DC, reports to the President, and requires approximately 30% domestic and international travel.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop a strategy for a board-approved goal of increasing RI’s policy impact and relevance beyond the Beltway of Washington, with new private, public, and nonprofit sector partners,

  • Inspire new supporters to lead efforts in their communities and take action in support of refugees and displaced persons in their region, around the country, and around the world. Identify and build a base of policy support in organizations not previously engaged in supporting the refugee crisis, including the corporate community.

  • In conjunction with the RI development and program staff, develop, cultivate, and maintain relationships with key public, private, and nonprofit sector leaders in markets beyond Washington, DC.

  • In collaboration with the RI communications team, design, create, and use a range of engagement tools to communicate with target audiences and to achieve strategic objectives

  • Promote consensus across varied internal functions to achieve shared organizational goals

  • Represent RI at events, convenings, and within coalitions, as well as act as a public spokesperson for RI around the country

Preferred Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred and a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience

  • A strong record of successful community partner, donor, and/or constituent acquisition, cultivation, and retention

  • Proven track record of successfully building all aspects of a new initiative or business from the early stages, including strategy, fundraising, service, and day-to-day team and operations management

  • Strong interpersonal skills, organizational skills, time management and project management skills, with attention to detail and initiative to both lead and collaborate on projects

  • Excellent writing and editing competencies, including experience in developing compelling messages to encourage support and involvement in policy advocacy for refugees and those internally displaced.

  • Strong sense of the importance of cross functionality within a dynamic team and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues

  • Ability to adapt quickly to changes in a fast-paced work environment

  • Flexibility, innovative thinking, collegial, and a sense of humor
