Communications Intern

Refugees International is seeking a talented communications intern for the summer of 2021. The communications intern will support Refugees International’s communications and Refugee Advocacy Lab team. The communications intern will assist with social media and email marketing; public, NGO, and policymaker outreach; media relations and monitoring; contact database management; and refugee advocacy lab initiatives.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Build media reports and targeted media contact lists on issues relevant to ongoing Refugees International advocacy and research.

  • Assist with web publishing and maintenance on Refugees International’s Squarespace website.

  • Help promote Refugees International’s work on social media, research social media best practices, and design digital graphics.

  • Copy edit public outreach and media materials which may include: web pages, blog posts, email newsletters, social media posts, action items, or letters to the editor.

  • Assist with edits and updates to contact database and disseminate communications via the Marketo email marketing system.

  • Create and edit video, multimedia, and other written content for social media, website, and other digital platforms.

  • Help with digital analytics reporting.

  • Keep current on stories related to Refugees International’s work in major news outlets.

  • Assist with meetings, events, and special projects as they arise.

 

THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE WILL:

  • Be enrolled as an undergraduate, graduate student, or have recently graduated within the past year;

  • Be seeking the internship as part of the educational experience related to the program in which they are enrolled;

  • Willing to intern for at least 250 hours over the course of the summer, within the 9:00am – 5:00pm EST period in which their supervisor will be available, unless further discussed and approved by their supervisor;

  • Have a strong interest in international refugee and humanitarian affairs;

  • Have experience in the Adobe Creative Suite;

  • Be able to represent Refugees International in a professional manner;

  • Be creative and willing to learn;

  • GIS or data science skills a plus.

This is a remote position. For this summer, we will be providing unpaid interns with a stipend to help defray the cost of living and other expenses. This stipend is not intended to serve as renumeration for the services provided, but rather, again, to help defray expenses.
