In a letter, over 50 former national security and foreign policy officials, as well as leaders in the NGO community, called upon Congress to resist administration proposals to dramatically cut U.S. humanitarian assistance. The letter also urges the Congress to protect the key role of the U.S. State Department’s Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration (PRM).
Refugees International is concerned by the Trump administration’s budget request for international humanitarian assistance for FY2020.
As the Administration considers reorganization of the government, more than 40 former U.S. diplomats and national security officials who have served in Republican and Democratic administrations along with 18 humanitarian organization leaders called on the Trump administration to affirm the key role of the State Department’s Bureau of Population, Refugees, and Migration. The letter was delivered to Secretary of State Rex Tillerson yesterday, with copies sent to leadership on Capitol Hill.
