Here at Refugees International, our mission is simple: we make sure the world keeps its promises to displaced and stateless people. When families are displaced by conflicts or disasters, we ensure that aid gets to those who need it. When communities are threatened by violence or exploitation, we make sure they are protected. When rights are denied or deprived, we demand that they be restored.
Getting world leaders and policy makers to uphold these commitments can be tough. But over more than 30 years, Refugees International has had remarkable success, whether in the halls of Congress, at the United Nations, or in the communities where displaced people live.
There are several key reasons for this success. One is that our talented staff works just as effectively in a crowded refugee camp as they do in a briefing room, combining detailed knowledge of the issues with the political savvy that can shift debates and grab the attention of policy makers. Another is that Refugees International’s small size allows us to respond quickly and decisively when new crises and challenges emerge.
But the most important reason for our success is our independence, both political and financial. Because we do not accept government or UN funding, our advocacy is always driven by the facts on the ground and the people we serve, not by the whims of politicians. This independence opens doors and gives us unmatched credibility, but we cannot maintain it without your help.
Every gift to Refugees International produces lifesaving advocacy on behalf of displaced and stateless people around the globe. Indeed, we are proud to have received Charity Navigator’s top rating for five years in a row — an honor only 5 percent of US charities can claim.
We hope you will join us, and we thank you for your support.
Sincerely,
Michel Gabaudan
