Honors Mia Farrow and Ronan Farrow, Senator Edward Kennedy, and Senator Gordon Smith
May 8, 2008 – Refugees International (RI) celebrated its 29th Anniversary at the Embassy of Italy in Washington, DC, by honoring Mia Farrow and Ronan Farrow, her son, with the 2008 McCall-Pierpaoli Humanitarian Award for their unparalleled commitment to raising awareness of the genocide in Darfur, and for inspiring others to get involved. Senator Edward M. Kennedy (D-MA) and Senator Gordon H. Smith (R-OR) were honored with the 2008 Congressional Leadership Award for their bi-partisan efforts to improve the lives of Iraqi refugees. Thanks to our generous supporters, the dinner netted more than $400,000 for Refugees International's lifesaving advocacy.

The McCall-Pierpaoli Humanitarian Award pays homage to exceptional individuals who demonstrate tireless effort and commitment to humanitarian ideals and improved service to refugees. Named in memory of Penny and David McCall and Yvette Pierpaoli who died during a Refugees International mission to Albania in 1999, the McCall-Pierpaoli Humanitarian Award is Refugees International’s most prestigious honor.
