Refugees International's Exceptional Service Award celebrates the noble work of journalists, activists and others whose service has had an indelible impact on the lives of the most vulnerable men, women and children around the world - the very people for whom Refugees International advocates.
Refugees International (RI) honored Ann Curry with our Exceptional Service Award to recognize her unwavering commitment to covering humanitarian crises around the globe and reporting facts from the field. Ms. Curry is the NBC News national and international correspondent/anchor at large. She has distinguished herself in global humanitarian reporting, frequently traveling to remote areas of the world for her stories. Through her reporting, Ms. Curry has called the world's attention to the plight of women and children in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, humanitarian crises in Sudan's Darfur region and the Nuba Mountains, and the refugee crisis as a result of the genocide in Kosovo. She also covered massive natural disasters in Chile, Haiti, Japan and Pakistan.
The Exceptional Service Award was presented by Matt Dillon, a director on RI's board, who has participated in several RI missions. Celebrated for his work in film and television, he starts in the upcoming Fox television series Wayward Pines.
