Central African Republic Map
12/06/2006
Fighting between government and various irregular forces along the CAR border with Chad and Sudan continues and has displaced approximately 150,000 people. In the northeast, the Central African army, backed by French forces, fought for control near the tripartite border of Sudan, Chad and the Central African Republic. Getting access to this area is extremely difficult and the exact nature of the situation and the needs are unknown. The northwest, another part of the country where insecurity and impunity reign and few international agencies operate, has never received adequate attention. Refugees International had the opportunity to travel with a UN convoy to the northwest to meet with displaced and vulnerable people.
