Visual Mission: Pakistan earthquake

Refugees International traveled to the earthquake-affected areas of Pakistan at the end of November to assess the humanitarian response. The humanitarian response got off to a slow start, and with the onset of winter, most survivors are living without adequate shelter and without access to basic services. Funding for emergency relief is inadequate to ensure that people are able to survive the winter.

On October 8, an earthquake measuring 7.6 on the Richter scale devastated large parts of northern Pakistan. As a result, over 80,000 were killed and over 3 million became homeless. A majority of the buildings have been reduced to rubble. Despite the widespread destruction and magnitude of needs, donors have been slow to respond with emergency assistance. With the onset of winter, providing adequate shelter to survivors is a priority. Health and water are also critical needs.
