Sudan (south) 2004: Cargo Plane Delivery in Nuba Mountains
11/16/2004
A Russian-made Antonov cargo plane delivers a load of construction material, medicines, and passengers to the Nuba Mountains. Southern Sudan is dotted with airfields as cargo flights from Kenya have long been the only way for humanitarian aid to reach SPLA controlled areas. Food and other humanitarian aid is still air-dropped to Sudanese in remote, dangerous areas of southern Sudan. The ceasefire in the Nuba Mountains has made it possible for a limited amount of cross-border trade and movement of people to take place between government and SPLA controlled areas.
