On July 19, 2006, Nadim, a French teacher, drove his sister to Sidon for a routine operation. While he was en route to Sidon, about an hour away, the Israelis opened fire on the village of Srifa. “I drove through the groves under sniper fire to get my family,” he told us. “I drove them back to Sidon where we stayed at my brother’s house.” But his father, mother, and another sister were still back in the village. He returned to get them just in time – this photo shows what remains of their house after it received a direct hit from a missile. “The missile not only destroyed my father’s house, it also destroyed his carpentry shop underneath it,” Nadim told us.
