Lebanon 2006: Man in a Wheelchair Recently Fled Beirut suburb

08/06/2006

There are many vulnerable groups within the displaced, particularly the handicapped. Twenty- four days ago, this man and his wife fled Dahiyeh, a suburb of southern Beirut that has been repeatedly bombed. He suffered a stroke several years ago and cannot talk. He is confined to a wheel chair and has suffered from complications from a previous stomach surgery. “We stayed in a shelter in our building for two days but then came here. I need many sanitation items to take care of my husband and I don’t have them and don’t have money to buy them.”
