Pakistan 2005: Delivering aid in mountainous regions

Delivering relief supplies to earthquake survivors is a logistical nightmare, especially in the far-flung mountainous regions. Many roads were destroyed in the earthquake, and some villages were inaccessible by road even before the earthquake. Villages are scattered far apart, so deliveries are complicated. During winter, some areas may receive up to 20 feet of snow. Heavy snow fall also limits road access. Some areas can only be reached by helicopter, but winter makes it difficult for helicopters to fly.
