Kosovo 2005: Roma father doesn't understand lead poisoning

06/10/2005

This father of three lives in Zitkovac camp in North Mitrovica which is irretrievably polluted with lead and must be evacuated immediately. He called the lead problem “unbelievable”, but also does not understand the blood results given to him or the severity of the problem. He questioned how someone could live if 65% of their blood was lead. He questioned that if it is really a problem, then “why are they [international organizations] not helping the Roma children?” Refugees International is calling on the UN to immediate evacuate the camp.
