A Burmese Grandmother in Tham Hin Refugee Camp, Thailand

11/10/2004

This grandmother cares for her grandchild in a severely overcrowded refugee camp outside of Bangkok where the family bond for refugees runs strong. Like mothers everywhere, she worries about the child’s future. The birth rate in the camp is on the rise, as the lack of educational opportunities and jobs stifle the social development of the Karen Burmese who live here. While this grandmother helps her daughter raise her baby in the camp, the future of the youngster is unknown. RI is advocating for the residents of this camp to be considered for third country resettlement.
