Chad 2005: Man Collects Wood to Protect Wife

The majority of work in the household and outside is carried out by women and young girls. RI met an exception to the social norm. Mr. Ahmed, seated among these men, made a decision that none of his daughters or his two wives would go out of the camp for gathering firewood. “Sometimes my wives were walking for 20 kilometers [13 miles] to find wood. Then one day my wife and other women from the camp came back beaten. I decided that I would go gathering wood. It is just too dangerous for them.”
