Northern Uganda: A grandmother who lost her children

11/20/2004

Six of this grandmother's eight children were murdered by rebels in one day. She was forced to flee after her property was seized by rebels, fearing for her two surviving children. She has been displaced for eight years and known the extreme poverty of camp life that offers too little water, desperately poor sanitation, and severe threat of disease. She suffers constant headaches and cannot sleep as she worries without end for her children, one grandchild, and the four orphans now in her care, fearing the Uganda military will fail to protect them from abduction, mutilation, or death should the rebels come and the brutality of the past be repeated. Refugees International continues to advocate on her behalf and bring attention to the forgotten crisis in Northern Uganda.
