Chad 2005: Child Protection

Given the violence that many children experienced, providing them with a sense of normalcy is often the most effective way to address their trauma. This is a picture of one of Christian Children Fund’s child-centered spaces in Iridimi refugee camp. It is attached to a health clinic and nutrition centers. Children are able to come here and play, and their mothers are able to talk to one another. There are plans to begin recreation activities. Despite this center, “underdeveloped” was the word aid agencies used to describe child protection activities in the refugee camps in eastern Chad. There are few NGOs with expertise in child protection working in the camps, and CCF is the only organization in the central and northern camps that currently have specific programs targeted to children.
