Darfur 2005: AU force in Masteri

The AU patrol left the area without talking to any of the internally displaced, who want the AU to do more to protect them. However, as AMIS continues to build its police capacity, it plans to start regular patrols in and around camps in an effort to improve security. But the force will be too small to provide much coverage. It plans to extend its reach by working in partnership with Sudanese police, but many displaced people charge that police are responsible for some of the attacks and rapes they are supposed to prevent. There is no confidence in local authority.
