The next stop was home of the local leader, or fursha. “It shows respect to me that you came to my house,” the fursha said, as his staff served tea. “It shows that you have great interest in solving the problems in Sudan and in the surrounding area.” Asked about the general security situation, the leader said: “I can’t say that the security situation is good, but thank God, it’s better than before.” He complained that women continue to face harassment and attack when they leave the area to collect firewood. At the fursha’s house the team also met with staff from the Tearfund, who said that they have limited their work in the area since threats from the government.
