This mission was a follow-up to an earlier investigation of a ceasefire violation. Tearfund, a Christian relief and development agency working in Masteri, reported that its workers had been threatened by Sudanese soldiers. As a result, the organization temporarily withdrew its international staff from the area and demanded an investigation. The patrol’s first stop was the local police station for an update on the ongoing investigation.
