Sudan 2004 - Water deliveries in El Bashir

03/01/2004

Water deliveries in El Bashir. Camp Wad el Bashir is home to around 50,000 refugees.Because the camp grew quickly and haphazardly, it is crowded and disorganized. There are basic services, such as water and schools, although the schools are extremely crowded. The government has launched an admirable program to turn the camps into more stable residential communities with planned streets and utilities. Some of the camp residents will have an opportunity to buy land and build new houses in the rezoned camps. However, the execution of the program is deeply flawed because it involves demolishing existing houses.
