This burned out tank illustrates the impact of 20 years of civil war in Sri Lanka.  Although hostilities ended when a cease-fire was signed by the warring factions (the Government of Sri Lanka and the Tamil group LTTE) in 2002, there is still no permanent peace agreement in place.
