The Gaza Strip is heavily fenced except for border points like this one at Erez.  Areas where Palestinians live nearby Israeli settlements have been declared closed military zones.  These are only accessible to the residents at specific times.  They may also be stopped from leaving or returning home for days or even weeks.  Others are forced to choose between family and employment.
