Visual Mission: Military Observers in the Democratic Republic of the Congo

Another role is to talk to civilian populations to determine what armed groups are in the area and how the groups are treating the population.  Unfortunately, the presence of an armed group is always bad news.  Their “military” activities include killings, rapes, kidnappings, forced labor, theft and extortion.  The MILOBS gather information and report back to MONUC armed forces and other sections to determine further actions.
