Visual Mission: Military Observers in the Democratic Republic of the Congo

09/17/2003

One of their jobs is make contact with rebel leaders to influence them to stop preying on civilian communities.  Armed only with a UN 4-wheel drive vehicle, their UN blue berets, they project the MONUC presence into the Congo’s interior.  On this day, the team went to the headquarters of this rebel brigade commander.  One message to the rebel commander was: “We need to know that the security of the population is guaranteed.”
