Visual Mission: Military Observers in the Democratic Republic of the Congo

09/17/2003

RI accompanied a MILOB team from Bukavu to Walungu to look into reports of Interahamwe (Rwandan Hutu militia) activity at Budodo, about 20km from Bukavu.  This was a composite team: Igor (Ukraine), Ajay (India), Joyce (Kenya), Pablo (Uruguay), team leader LtCol Kolo Diarra (Mali), and Didili (Niger).  Their common official language was English, but most spoke French and one spoke Swahili.  Their other common language was the kind of camaraderie common to soldiers the world over.
