Quishtappa Collective Town
Habib, his mother, sister, aunt and other family members came to Quishtappa from the village of Palona (near the Turkish border) in 1977. They fled their home before Iraqi forces destroyed their village. However, Habib’s father and two brothers were later killed in an Anfal attack on Quishtappa in 1983. The unemployment rate in the town is 75%, but Habib is fortunate to be employed in the Peshmerga (Kurdish military) forces. Habib and his extended family would like to return to Palona if they are provided with assistance to build houses there.
