“We came from Pakistan about a year ago now. We had lived in Pakistan for five years, and before that we rented a house in Kabul. My husband was a laborer. We returned to Afghanistan because things were becoming difficult in Pakistan. It was hard for my husband to find work, and we couldn’t pay the rent. So we came back to Kabul. I am very happy to be back, but I thought things would be a little easier here. It is difficult for my husband to find work, and we can’t afford to pay rent so we are staying here [in this destroyed house with seven other families]. All the children are in school and there is a clinic near here, but this place is not good for my children. There are sixty children from all the families here. But at least I am in my country again.”
