Kenya Visual Mission:  Languishing in Northern Kenya Refugee Camp

06/19/2003

There was a great deal of fear that violence would erupt when the buses began their drive to the airstrip. The caravan of vehicles received an armed Kenyan escort, but the entire drive to the airport was lined with well-wishers from Sudan, Somalia, Ethiopia, Uganda, Eritrea, Congo, Burundi, and Rwanda.  The crowd cheered and waved, no doubt hoping to board a bus one day themselves and leave the difficult life in Kakuma Refugee Camp behind.
