This Issa girl is taking a herd of goats to water. The rivers in this desert country are usually dry, but runoff from the highlands fills a few potholes with water and makes it possible for the herders to find water for their animals. The next rains are due in March. Should they fail, the few remaining water holes will soon dry up. Wells are few and far between and unreliable. “Water harvesting” and other development programs would help the Issa continue to survive in a difficult environment.
